At Goodwill, I found this black polyester and spandex (pleather) skirt. I instantly thought it resembled the shape of peplum tops that are currently everywhere. I tried it on, and it was ugly, as a skirt, but I knew it had potential to be a super cute peplum top! I bought the skirt for just $9 and this is what I came up with....
The less than flattering skirt.... |
Step 1: Try the garment on to get an idea of how much in needs to be altered in different areas (as a top, of course).
Step 2: Lay the skirt flat on the floor and turn it inside out, placing a few pins where you intend to take it in. The skirt I bought has a zipper on one side, that I definitely wanted to stay away from. So, I just took all of the material in one the opposite side. The skirt was fairly straight and I wanted the top to be form fitting so I took it in about 1 inch where the bust would be and about 4 inches at the waist. Once, I reached the pleather part that flares out, be sure to not sew straight down, but to angle it back out the way it originally it was so it will maintain the proper shape.
Step 3: Thread a needle and hand sew the new silhouette line. It is best to use a sewing machine, but I don't have one at school. Even if you do, it is still a good idea to hand sew it first to make sure you achieved the right curve and then machine sew over it.
Yes, it is much more curvy on the side I took in, but it looks good on. |
Here is the finished product!
I love a bold contrast! |
With black bodycon skirt from Pacsun |
With red skirt purchased at Forever 21 |
Anytime I put on lipstick I have the urge to take webcam selfies, so here's one to add to the collection of weird photos of myself that I put on the internet. |
Hope you all enjoyed this!
Love,
