A Nail Polish Pen...Literally! (DIY)

Do you ever wish you could paint your nails as well as the ladies at the salon?? Ever wish it was as easy as writing with a pen?? Well, I have found your answer. I can't believe I have thought of this all on my own, because I think it is pretty genius!

The other day I was contemplating doing a cute nail tutorial for Valentine's Day and that is when it hit me! I thought to myself, I wonder if I could disassemble a regular pen and fill it with nail polish to decorate my nails?!

Tonight I went to work. I searched for a dead pen but of course when I actually need one I couldn't find one. After a little trial and error this is what I came up with!

Step 1: Find a pen. A pen with as little ink in it already is the best. Also, the more simple the pen, the easier it is to disassemble. If it is one with a cap instead of a push to write clicker thing it is much easier to deal with.

Step 2: Disassemble the pen. Screw off the tip of the pen, remove the ink cartridge and pull out the metal tip. (Your pen may be a tad bit different so just do your best to completely unassemble it without breaking anything.)

Step 3: Remove any remaining ink from the ink cartridge tube. You can do this by tapping it on a table or running it under hot water, eventually it will all come out.

Step 4: Once all of the ink is removed you can begin putting your nail polish of choice into the tube. I used a fairly thin nail polish this time because I wasn't sure how well it would work. The thicker the polish the harder it will be for the polish to dispense.

Step 5: If it is a ball point pen, you will need to cut the tip off of the metal part. This allows the polish to really come out, otherwise it will only work on paper and it will be way too thin.

Step 6: Screw all of the parts back together. You may need to tap the pen downwards on a table to shake the polish into the tip.

Step 7: Decorate your nails to you liking! I thought I would go for a Valentine's Day theme (even though I hate the holiday, yep, single and bitter). The awesome part about using the nail polish pen is that it allows for a constant flow of polish and it creates a thin enough line to write letters and small details, but it is thick enough to read.

Note: If you run out of polish, simply unscrew the pen and drop some more in.

This is the first time I have tried this so I am not really sure how long the polish will last without drying up. I would be sure to not add too much polish and that way it will be easier to clean out and add a new color!
I mean, why buy all those drug store nail art shenanigans if you can do it for own for practically free, using whatever polish you'd like! :) This would also be great for doing french tips. I will try out some new designs and post them soon!

Hope you all like this. Good luck, and let me know if any if you try this out! Also, give me any feedback you have, I love comments!

If you decorate your nails using this method, send me your pics here and I will post them on my blog!

Love,
LST
